1975 Harley Davidson / Aermacchi MX 250 Prototype

1975 Harley Davidson / Aermacchi MX 250 PrototypeHere is a very cool and rare 1975 Harley Davidson / Aermacchi MX 250 Prototype. This submission is from E. Carlson of Wilmington, Delaware. Here is Mr. Carlson’s description of his bike:

You are looking at one Harley / Aermacchi 1975 MX-250 prototype motocross bike. This bike was hand build by Harley Davidson Racing engineers for Harley dealers only, and was not available for sale to the public. This Harley has front and rear air ride suspension a hydraulic rear brake system (this was unheard of in 1975 on an mx bike.) My family owned a Harley dealership from 1971 to 1992 and we bought one of these bikes to promote our dealership in the Delaware Enduro Race in 1976. After that year, the bike was on display on our showroom floor ever since.

The 250 MX was sent to dealers, only most parts from a 250cc SX will work. I worked at a dealer for some time. Have fun with is bike they are a very strong bike.

I am a big fan of Harley Davidson/biker history, specifically t-shirts from the 70s & 80s. This brought me to your posting and write up about your bike and dealership. I collect the t-shirts and art work that the shirts were made from during that era.

I have a very large collection of old Harley/Biker t-shirts and a few of them are from the CM&H cycles the other person mentioned. If the person who wrote the original listing or anyone else can help please let me know.

I’m not sure if this is the right place to write but if whomever reads this know of anyone with any old Harley shirts from the 70’s or 80’s or the artwork (even the screens are things I collect) used to make the shirts I would really love to hear back.

    Thanks
    Casey

Looks like I am restoring a 1975 H.D.MX250 prototype. This is the real deal!!! It has very low hours. Runs YAHOO, and was raced in Grand Junction, Co. The dealer of the bike was C.M.&H Cycles out of Grd. Jct. The bike is complete. Has the big head engine. There is a serial number on the engine but not the frame (Any Ideas). I would like to talk to someone who could give me some more Info about these and where to find some small parts (levers, cables, swing arm bushings, fork seal kits front and rear etc.) This is a complete bike and I would be interested in selling upon the restoration being complete. Any interested parties please contact the e-mail address: gtcsharpe@aol.com
