1971 Maico MC 125
Here is the second showcase bike in family of Maicos from John Fraase of Springfield, Illinois. You’ve seen his Maico MC 501, now check out his 1971 Maico MC 125!
From John:
I purchased this bike from the Tapscott family in November 2013 as a barn find project. It needed a complete restoration. Disassembly went smooth for sitting in a shed rusting for 30 years.
I sent the motor to Dan Vitalleti in Sante Fe, New Mexico. He went through the motor and vapor blasted everything, adjusted the gearbox and clutch, set timing and sent her back ready to install. Clint Maderos worked his magic on all the fiberglass and made it all shine. Bob Mathews powdered the frame and swing arm, and Halls Harley laced up the shouldered wheels.
Jeff Mullins at Maico Werks built new cables for me and Jeff Freer polished up the controls. Canham Graphics cut out my design for the tank decals. The biggest challenge was getting the correct spoke sets, but after that it came together very well. Again, I have to thank my friends Randy Lee, Keith Whaley, Gerry Booth and Paul Chippendale for pushing me to finish her before Diamond Dons in Texas 2014. Keep em alive, thanks!
Thanks for sharing more classic Maico muscle John!
