1979 PLS Yamaha YZ500
This showcase bike is rare indeed. Mike Owens from Stafford, England shares his 1979 PLS Yamaha YZ500 with us!
Built by Dutch Maestro Pieter Lameijers. Only 7 frames were made. Being of Dutch origin they are tall and long but very light considering it is all steel construction. The geometry works very well and it will turn quite sharply and will hold a line at rapid speeds. Having ridden Yamaha HLS and Cheneys etc., this bike is by far the better handling one. The motor is a Yamaha SR with 38mm Delorto, Excel rims, Renthal bars, & Venhill cables. This bike is a rocket!!
When twin shocks fell out of favor, Pieter built a frame that utilized the Suzuki Full floater rear end, and it was very successful. With Jan Mulder on board it won the Euro 4 stroke championships! it was designated the Mulder Yamaha, approx 20 were made and are very sought after.
Thanks for sharing Mike!

@Timothy: 1979-80 Yamaha YZ400, IT425, YZ IT OW 400, 425, OW425, Standard Piston. These are on eBay. This might help on a bore that is used up before you re-sleeve it. Might be worth looking into.
I am looking for an air filter cage for a ’79 YZ400… I can find the filters all day long, but I bought the bike without the filter or cage. Oddly enough, the airbox is pristine. The bike is on the last bore. Any advice on who to use for a sleeve install?
Thanks,
